I'm not going to give you a list of 47 apps you'll download and never open. Here's what's actually on my phone every trip:
A translation app — for signs, menus, and conversations on the fly. My favorite feature is speaking directly into it and getting a real-time translation back. Game changer for ordering dinner in a language you don't speak.
WhatsApp — the easiest way to talk to hotels, guides, and drivers abroad without racking up international texting fees.
Google Maps — download your maps offline before you go. I also build custom pinned maps for my clients with their favorite restaurants, cafés, and hidden gems already saved, so they're never guessing where to eat.
Your iPhone's calculator — an underrated trick for converting currency on the fly while you're shopping or out to dinner.
Your airline's app — mobile boarding passes, gate changes, and baggage tracking all in one place.
Tern — our complimentary itinerary app that keeps everything together: hotels, transfers, tours, confirmations, and documents, all accessible offline. Clients can even authorize payments and get real-time trip updates through it.
